The Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Yola (FUTY) Professor Bashir Haruna Usman has declared a possible increase in school fees as from next session and a short semester for students of the institution.

In a speech at the 2009/2010 matriculation ceremony of new students, the vice chancellor said there is need for improved funding of the university for effective learning.

"As we are aware the government alone cannot provide the facilities needed for efficient learning. There is need for parents and all stakeholders in the university to consider how they can contribute to funding the university, probably through increase in school fees," he said.

The vice chancellor also said that the university is interested in the affairs of the Students Union Government (SUG), hence the constitution of a caretaker committee following fears of instability that characterised the last SUG election.
