Have you wanted to do something so right and so good, but the time is not just ripe and the necessary tools to accomplish such are not ready. And there is this belief in your heart that if you would wait for as long as close to twenty years you would accomplish such task with much dexterity and less cost and stress. Only belief would drive away the fear of you not being alive to wait this long, amidst other fears.
But this was the case of James Cameron. If you thought Titanic was a fluke, then please, do have a re-think. When he directed Terminator, which was a Box Office hit, many did not really appreciate this man. And then he went on to direct Titanic, which the producers were scared would not be a success because of Water World.
Thumbs up to all the super-fans in the celebrity world, and big-ups to those that value what it is to be a celebrity. Now, before I continue with what is at hand, the way it will baffle you is same way it did with me before I started to do this article.
Many questions I ponder over, and one is;
“Can a Nigerian fan buy any article/accessory of our celebrities for hundreds of thousands?”
Well, that is a question that is opened. You call it a weird world, but I say it is a world that is reciprocal. Indeed, reciprocal. Let me take you back memory lane, and you will understand why Nigerian celebrities are not really appreciated.
The date was October 10th. The venue was Nairobi, Kenya. The event was MTV MAMA Awards 2009.
Nameless (Kenya) and M.I. (Nigeria) were the big winners of the evening; the two artistes took home two trophies each at the pan-African music celebration, held at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani, Kenya.The host was Wyclef Jean of the then Fugees. His entering introduction was unique as he came in from the crowd. He introduced Akon as his younger brother, of course in colour and music I suppose. The Host, Wyclef Jean set the uplifting tone for the evening with an electrifying live set including monster hits ‘Sweetest Girl’, ‘No Woman No Cry‘ and ‘Ready or Not’.
In keeping with the show’s purpose of bringing Africa together, the MAMA awards featured multiple collaborations between artistes from different countries and music genres – mixing up hip hop with R&B, alternative, soul and dancehall, among others. Among the collaborations thrilling the 4,000 strong crowd was a three way tie-up featuring HHP, Brickz and 2Face. And a stunning collaboration between Kenyan divas Amani and Wahu and Tanzania’s A.Y. and a dramatic hip-hop/rock mash-up between Zebra & Giraffe and Da LES.
D’Banj brought home the biggest award for the third time.
